What do you consider to be the first official signs of spring?

More hours of sunlight. Going to work with light and coming home with light.

For me, winter means confinement. Further, I have S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) and the long, long nights are very debilitating. I  make a project of watching for signs of spring.  The first reliable sign (aside from melting snow which can happen at any time in the dark months) is looking in my root cupboard and finding the potatoes sprouting. About this time in the calendar, weather permitting I can watch for my snowdrops. Even if I have to shovel my way to the forsythia bush, I take cuttings on Candlemas Day (2/2) to force inside.  On many dreary years, I've been enormously cheered by seeing onion sets for sale in the supermarket.  I regard the first robin as a definitive sign--particularly the first robin on my turf, checking out my worms.  Finally, I'm very partial to the impudent yellow of dandelions. In this neck of the woods they come into full bloom in mid-April. I take them as proof that spring won't be revoked.-

Budding trees turning into Flowering trees, Lillacs, daffodills and putting the clock forward, the fresh new warmer wind, people "acting" nicer, love in the air, misty dawns, duck migrations, pastels, the beach at night, all are what I consider hallmarks of Spring!

NOT on my list is: Baseball in Florida, rainny days, ham, gym advertizments, shamrocks, crowded beaches, Spring/Summer sales, "Sweeps", or over advertised holidays.

May and October are my favorite months

It's a toss up between the first robin and the first crocus. Close seconds are magnolias blooming and forsythia.

Daffodils & crocuses, rain that isn't freeszing cold, small buds on the trees, and that first wow of I can't believe it's still light outside.

When the flowers bloom, when the robins go back to Marshalltown (tho' they're pretty much year-round in Ames), when the hummingbirds and orioles come, when I can wear my summer stuff, when it gets all green, when it rains instead of snows--especially good thunderstorms instead of drizzle, when there are tornado warnings.

Beautiful flowers...new blooms

What's spring?
We have 3 seasons in Louisiana: hot, hotter, and "it's not so bad today."

Flowers peaking up out of the ground. And then the trees blooming and I start sneezing.

I look to the birds! Regardless of what the climate is where you live, the birds carry out certain activities during each season. In most cases birds do not sing during the winter months but as soon as spring arrives (or shortly before) they begin to sing to attract a mate and to establish territories. I know spring is almost here when I hear cardinals and robins, I KNOW it's here!
