Have you ever been surprised by something one of your friends did that was truly unpredictable and out-of-character?

I submitted this question when my out-in-space friend, Frodo, was caught listening to country music. Believe me, this is COMPLETELY out-of-character for him.

I am a person of firm and rather optimistic convictions--with faith in my convictions. Consequently I am perpetually surprised by individuals and by the universe.

Not that I can think of. I don't know if that is good or not.

Yeah, but I can only think of negative things right now, not any positive ones. Which is not to say that my friends aren't great.

Nothing really stands out.

Like how my best friend, Miss Hallmark Queen herself, forgot my birthday last year...she never forgets when it's time to send a card! Oh well, she made up for it!!

Of course I have! If my friends were not of sufficiently complex character to do something occasionally that did not fit my image of them, they would not be interesting enough people to be my friends.

Yeah sure. Like when your friend Mr. cool is strutting his stuff and accidently knocks himself in the balls.

Not that I can remember. People seldom act out of character. If they do something surprising, it may be just a facet of their personality that you hadn't seen before, or didn't know was there.

Nothing really comes to mind.

Nothing that truly stands out in my memory at the moment. Wish I had more of an answer to this one.

My friends and I were having a birthday dinner for our friend Richard, which had been somewhat coordinated by myself and Enrique (Richard's brother), but mostly planned by the man of the hour himself. At dinner, I had been trying to get a girl friend of ours to stop bugging Enrique. She wouldn't stop asking personal questions which pertained to something Enrique didn't particularly want to talk about. I told her "Look, Jenn, if it was really that funny, he'd tell you about it." Enrique just stared at me. Then he bursts out with "My god, it's not like everyone is as competitive as you are, everything doesn't always have to be funny. You really piss me off sometimes." I tried to explain, but he wouldn't listen. This was unusual  because usually he won't blow up at anyone, even when provoked.

Yes, a friend of mine in high school completely turned on me one day. I never found out if there was a reason. Just, one day he decided we weren't friends and told me as much. I said, fine, fuck you too and I haven't spoken to him but maybe twice since then and that was over 10 years ago.

A few times, but then that is what makes them such good friends. You just never know fully what to expect.
