Have
you ever been in long- or short-term psychological therapy? This is a rather
personal question, but the reason I asked it is purely out of curiosity in numbers.
Without giving details, my own answer is yes; both short and long term at one point or
another in my adult life. It helped me to adjust to and to recover from some major rough
spots. I found it to be a really positive experience.
Fisch, 46 Preston, CT USA I had some marriage counseling--followed by a divorce. Later I had several meetings with a psychiatrist and discovered that I was correct in assuming that sanity meant accepting reality. Jill, 61 Saylorsburg, PA USA Very short term. Two sessions with a counselor to help me cope with my parents' deaths. They died about 3 months apart and I definitely needed some perspective. Laura, 37 Lowell, MA USA No. Unless you count therapeutic life experiences. I SHOULD have received psychiatric treatment the second time I had mono. You can read why at: http://www.karen.hart.net/monothesis.html Karen, 22 Ames, IA USA Yes, I had some short-term therapy when my marriage was breaking up. Jane, 62 West Linn, OR USA Yeah. Once a week for about 2 months. I was told I was 'less angry' when it was over. I dunno. Oh well. Not my money. Firelady, 24 Dallas, TX USA No. At least I don't think so (damn those long words!) Keri-Jade, 21 Brampton, Ontario CANADA No, but I know quite a few people who have. Judy, 62 Easton, KS USA No. But there were a couple of times when I was very close to seeking such professional advise. I'm sure if I had, my rough spots would have been a lot shorter and easier to deal with. Felicia, 36 Lowell, MA USA yes, I have been in short-term therapy. who hasn't? Maggie, 22 Sandwich, IL USA Yeah, and it was terrible. I would go in at 9 in the morning, cry, hedge questions, so on, and then I'd have to pretend to be in a good mood the rest of the day. That was why I stopped. Cancer, 20 NYC, NY USA Back in 1988, I went to a counselor regularly for depression. After a couple months, he said I had a better attitude than he did and said "Farewell." About five years ago I went to a psychiatrist (I can't remember why) but after talking to me for awhile, he said that I was suffering from depression and from what I told him, he said that he tought I had been suffering from it most of my life. He put me on a low dose of Paxil and it has changed my life. Little things that used to bother me, no longer seem important. Reba, 50+ Silver Spring, MD USA Yes! My parents didn't even know about it(And still don't), but I went to see the school psychologist during the end of my junior year/beginning of senior year. She helped me solve my problems pretty quickly. Eric, 20 Beverly Hills, CA USA Yes, in college. And for a while in high school but that didnt work out. Talia, 24 Wilton, CT USA First, I went to Dr. Hannibal Lecter, and, after getting inside my sick, twisted, perverted head, he went insane, and developed a tasted for liver and fava beans...then I went to Jason, and I corrupted him, until he developed a test for hockey masks...and Friday the 13th. Then, I went to a guy in Texas, corrupted him, and he became known as Leatherface. Eventually, I was persuaded to stop going to people, and turning them into monsters...to persuade me, they agreed to serve Taco Salad every Thursday...and now everybody is happy. Frodo No Laney Quite the personal question... Yes, I have been. It helped immensely and I feel it helped me to overcome the problems I was dealing with. Doug2, 29 Yes I have been in short term psycological therapy...to deal with things that were happening in my life...but today I just handle them one day at a time...with the grace of God I make it...I did not think that some of the therapist's helped....I thought it was a waste of time and money. Marci, 56 Las Vegas, NV USA Yes, because I have been diagnosed with bipolar manic depression. I am also taking Effexor & Depakote for medication. Melodi, 19 Gahanna, OH USA Not really, but I did meet with a psychologist a couple time to prove to a future employer that I wasn't completely crazy. Ryan, 28 Riedlingen GERMANY I went to a therapy for almost 9 months my sophomore year of high school for clinical depression. It was basically just counseling and I truly believe it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. If more people were willing to seek help for their problems and issues, they'd find that life can be much more valuable than they allow it to be. Angela, 18 E. Brunswick, NJ USA I was in family counseling and long term one-on-one counseling until I just refused to go. The school would no accept that an put me in a school run program and want after school couseling with a psychiatrist. Em, 16 PA USA |
