How much money would you have to have in the bank before you could stop worrying about money?

Money questions in a public forum seem intrusive to me.

Jill, 61

If you mean for the rest of my life? I have NO way of knowing that. To be on the safe side, I'll say a billion. If you mean in general, what would my balance need to look like as I go on about my regularly scheduled business? About three times what it

Cristin, 25

Due to inflation I'm not sure I can answer that.

Actually, I don't worry about money much right now. I have the ability to adjust my lifestyle according to what I receive. However, it would be nice to have a bit more reserve cash so I wouldn't have to adjust my lifestyle.

I don't know. I'm assuming that if I had the money in the bank that would mean our house was paid off too. I think 2 or 3 million dollars in the bank would make me feel a lot more relaxed and secure.

I guess I'm a "peculiar duck" as I have never worried about money. We've either got it and we can afford to do things or we don't so we don't do anything. But now I'm concerned about retirement and want to live in a motorhome. If I had $100,000 in the bank, I could buy a cheap one and save the rest. Oh happy day!

Reba, 57

I'd say in the neighborhood of about $15,000 in cold, hard cash. Yeah, that's the ticket.

You mean, stop worrying forever and quit my job? That would take quite a bit. But if I had a few grand in the bank I could relax a bit.

Millions

Tam

I'd stop worrying once all my debts are paid off -- including my mortgage, that figure is somewhere around $80,000.

Laura, 38

A hundred million pounds, at least. It would have to be more money than I would ever need in a lifetime if I were to stop me worrying completely.

Aly, 17

I'd need enough to cover my mortgage each month and the property taxes twice a year. Everything else I know I can handle.

If I could keep a solid grand in there all the time, I'd be fine. However, I do very well stresswise even with $15 cash, $2500 in debts, and a pile of $250 underage drinking tickets. Money isn't everything, they say. And I'll bet they're right.

All I ever keep in the bank is current spending money.

As long as my husband and I are working, there is no reason to worry about money. We have enough to live.

Stephanie, 27

I don't worry about money - I never have. In some ways that is not healthy, but in other ways it is. My husband worries enough for both of us. I had to pay $1,000 for a mattress set this weekend. Does that seem ridiculous? I paid less for a car when I was in my 20s. So, in answer to your question, Dear Reba, I just don't know. If we had $300,000 I would feel secure because I would know we could pay off everything we owe (house, cars, stepdaughter's college etc.) and
be OK.

Cindy, 41

Maybe a million. I could live on the interest, even at today's rates.

Judy, 62
Easton, KS USA

I'm not sure how much that would require. Quite a bit I would assume. However, I don't usually let myself worry much about money. My family is doing ok, we get by just fine so I've got many
other things that occupy my worries than that.

$1 million

More than I have right now.
