In my opinion, it's Forrest Gump. It doesn't
get any better than that.

There's been a lot of changes over the past hundred
years so to pick a movie that covers it all is tough. It would have to be a film that
covers the effects of change on a variety of subjects and then finds the common grounds in
an interesting way. I don't think one's been made yet. But if it means anything my
favorite films are True Stories (with The Talking Heads) and Willard.
Alias Irrelevante
St. Elmo's Fire. It shows a number of men AND women
graduating from college, what they go through as they move into adulthood, love, loss,
single parenthood, rich, poor, success, failure, and through it all the closeness of
friendship. It also has one of the most positive songs to ever grace a soundtrack (Man In
Motion).

I think that's an extremely difficult question,
because most movies only cover a very specific period of time. If they are spread out over
generations or whatever, as in Legends of the Fall, they're confined to a specific
culture.
The little clips in between scenes of Mr. Holland's
Opus were good summaries, but they didn't cover the whole century or the whole world by
any means. . .

Oh wow, tough question. I would have to say
American Beauty. It's a film that shows how the family has evolved throughout time, but
keeps in mind the individual. Plus, American Beauty proves that the quest for beauty,
love, and truth is still alive and well.

What film of the last 100 years sums up the tone
and character of the last 100 years the best? Any James Bond movie.
Good vs Evil
Glamoring overconsumption
Techno-tchotchkas
Women as objects
Putting white Anglo-Saxon men on a pedastal
I'm feeling just a little cynical today.

I'm not a movie goer and not one to
parrot other people's opinions.

I think Network, the 1976 movie that was
written by Paddy Chaefsky and directed by Sidney Lumet. .
It's funny, fast, cynical and sad. . . It's
sentimental moments(mainly between the William Holden character and his screen wife(who
won a Best Supporting Actress for the part, despite being in only about two or three
scenes)) are riveting and heartbreaking. . .

Citizen Kane. Driving ego, image, empire, success,
failure, love lost, fame, fortune, loneliness, longing, lost youth, media, power, and so
much more that defines the 20th century. Not to mention it was a groundbreaking, cinematic
masterpiece.
