Do you think that the Americans who answer the questions on 2000days,
accurately represent a cross-section of the U.S.? I think they do, in part. There are
obviously some things that we all share, but then again, the different regions of the US
all have their defining characteristics.
Jeremy, 14
Highlands Ranch, CO USA
No, because not all of the members
are Americans -- plus, many join and/or drop out of the group continuously.
Melodi, 19
Gahanna, OH
USA
No, but they represent an interesting one.
Jane, 62
West Linn, OR
USA
No. I think if it did it would have to
include a lot of blank entries. That said I think there is a fair amount of diversity on
the site.
Alias Irrelevante
They couldn't possibly, since they all have
internet access. But they do represent some different lifestyles and viewpoints.
Karen, 22
Ames, IA
USA
No. Most of the responses are from a younger
demographic, I don't see many middle-age men, or seniors.
Janet, 44
E. Brunswick, NJ USA
I doubt it very much.
Laura, 37
Lowell, MA
USA
No. There are millions of Americans who lack
computers or computer skills. A certain percentage of our population is illiterate.
Another sizable segment is more oriented to consuming than to describing.
Jill, 61
Saylorsburg, PA USA
That's hard to say, since most of us don't
know much about the others. I do think there's a pretty wide variety of opinions and
beliefs.
Judy, 62
Easton, KS
USA
I think there are a variety of answers, but
I would gather the site is missing entire groups of thought and existence.
Felicia, 36
Lowell, MA
USA
No. But sometimes it's worth it.
Karen, 22
Ames, IA
USA
I think we have a good crosssection. I've
seen lots of extreme answers, one side and the other on a lot of the questions. Not to
mention different age groups, lots of different regions of the US and we're getting some
from other countries now too (though it would be a lot of fun with more).
Triana, 29
Austin, TX
USA
No. I think it is a decent sampling of
unique individuals but definitely not an accurate representation of a broad cross-section
of the US population. There are way too many people who haven't ever heard of the site,
let alone even have a computer.
Doug2, 29
Overland Park, KS USA
Being an Aussie - I would probably say no. I
have read most of the replies and they are basically all the same. That's Americans for
you!!!!!
Brad, 21
Sydney AUSTRALIA
I don't think so. There are some freaky
americans out there who don't know about 2000 days, and think their voices are not being
heard. All ethnicities, welfare to rich, black to yellow, are we all being represted?
Dunno
Stephanie, 25
TX USA
I don't know, but I bet we could
find out. This would depend on people being honest. If there was a manditory question. One
that asked where people lived, age, race, religion, and
economic status. We might be able to find a good estimate. Probably No Possibly We could
find out if the probable is true of false.
Christopher, 28
San Mateo, CA
USA
Not an entirely accurate cross-section, but
for the most part, yes.
Nicci, 27
Las Vegas, NV
USA
I really dont know!
Tam
I submitted this question because I'd like
to know what others think.
Reba, 50+
Silver Spring, MD USA
I think that the US is so diverse that an
accurate cross-section isn't completely possible. I do think that the people who respond
to the 2000 days questions represents a well diversified portion of America's population,
and that's great because this will bring many opinions of the people across America.
Jessica, 18
Fairfield, CT USA
No, in a number of different ways:
for one thing, the respondents all have computer and
internet access, one way or another, and at least a basic level of savviness. That doesn't
discount as many people as it would have ten years ago, but it's still a good demographic
descriptor. We're all literate, for that matter.
We have the leisure time to answer the
questions. That discounts another large chunk.
But aside from that, there's the
question of what kinds of people who fit the above are then going to a) be aware of the
project, b) be interested, and c) want to participate.
The relationship between that group and the general populace is probably similar to that
between the general populace and the people who call in to talk radio shows.
Bill, 27
New Orleans, LA USA
Fairly
accurate, I suppose.
Fisch, 47
Preston, CT
USA
I would say about 25km...was young and
stupid at the time, as I only did it for something to do one morning.
Brad, 21
Sydney AUSTRALIA
Barring the fact that I feel bad for the
non-Americans on the list right now, I would say no. While there is a wide range of ages,
most of the people who post are female...
Cancer, 20
NYC, NY
USA
No. I
think we learn about 2000 days through friends and relatives and are basically the same.
KarenNJ, still 25
Milltown, NJ
USA
Probably not. I think the fact that we all
use the net is a sign that it's not a good representative. But I think that it's a decent
representation, yeah.
Angela, 18
Bella Vista, AR USA
No. Only
certain types of people, I believe, would be interested in such a project. Many could care
less about the opinions of others or even to think for themselves enough to answer.
