Would you watch an execution if you had the chance?

I wouldn't go out of my way to cancel my plans for the evening and set up three vcr's but if it were playing wherever I was I'd probably glance over. If I were invited to see one live I'm not sure.

Alias Irrelevante

I've struggled with this question because I'd rather lie about it, but really can't. I think I probably would watch an execution on TV if one were aired...but it would probably be a one-time shot and I'd be watching it purely out of curiosity. There. I said it.

Not if I could help it. In historical times they may have been popular social gatherings but I'm not interested in seeing anybody die.

No I would not. Even if it were a family member that the person had killed I wouldn't want to see it. I personally don't want to be a witness to something as barbaric and evil as an execution.

No way.

no, executions are wrong.

No, I had my fill of exeutions after watching "The Green Mile".

I'm against the death penalty. Absolutely not.

No-I think that'd be awful...to watch someone die.

Absolutely not. I would be utterly disgusted with myself.

Not unless i had to!! I couldn't i don't think, it's just too...grotesque!

I'm a staunch opponent of the death penalty.. even in cases like McVeigh's. I would never want to witness an execution, because I believe it is a crime against humanity committed by the government. Watching it would only be consenting that it was all right to do. The only time I'd watch an execution was if the condemned prisoner personally asked me to; ie I was his friend, etc.

I would watch if I were necessary as a witness. I would not watch as a matter of revenge or for entertainment.

Jill, 60

No, it's completely wrong. I don't believe in the death penalty. Anyone who would want to watch an execution out of entertainment or even curiousity is sick.

No. I would not. It's not that I don't support capital punishment, because I do and believe it's not used often enough, but I wouldn't watch an execution UNLESS...lets say it was someone that killed/hurt someone I loved.

Anjel, 20

Probably. That sounds sick and twisted, but I doubt I'd be able to resist it.

Shanna, 16

Absolutely not... I think that's the most disturbing thing anyone could  ever want to watch. I understand how the victims must feel, but I don't believe you need to watch your tormentor die to gain a sense of peace and forgiveness.

Absolutely not. State sanctioned violence is not my bag. What saddens me, is that as a citizen of the USA I am in some small way responsible for all federal executions. If only we all saw it that way, maybe we'd think twice about killing as a punishement for killing.

I don't know. I saw that movie with Clint Eastwood where he's the newspaper reporter and he's trying to prove that this guy in jail is not guilty right before they are going to execute him. Right at the end when they were about to kill him (lethal injection) I had to cover my eyes...so probably I

No way. I think the desire to watch an execution shows a sickness in our society. To WANT to watch any person die just lowers the person watching to the level of the person being executed. I find it sickening.

Deb

No. It's sickening to think about it. I'm horrified that my government sanctions the execution. I was very relieved when the courts decided that McVeigh's execution would not be publicly broadcast and it could not be video-taped.

No way.

Jane, 60

No, I have never seen a dead person and don't intend to start now especially when killing as a sin is still up in the air. I would never watch it be done.

no

Depends on whose it was and how it was done. McVeigh(sp?)  would have been on my to-watch list.

I'd have to go with talking face to face with someone first and foremost, followed by the phone as an alternative.
