Of
the following, in which way do you feel the Internet is most useful: up to the minute news
items, email, or pure entertainment (surfing etc) ?The internet is pretty useful. I
use email alot. Up to the minute news is cool, especially when you visit websites that are
updated daily or weekly, like www.peta.com. You can find out about just about anything
with the search engines. And for entertainment, I like the chat rooms, and the cute sites.
It's very useful to me.

I use my computer for e mail and for
searching for information in my many fields of ignorance.

I use the internet for email, news, research
and shopping. I rarely just surf.

Yes. Probably email--but the
internet is great for all kinds of things. It all depends on what you need at the time.
Research is another important one. I guess research is more important to me than news.

E-mail, up-to-the minute news, then
research, then pure entertainment.

Email is by far the most useful thing on the
net. Followed by last minute/writing the essay the night before research. The third most
useful part of the internet is MP3's

How about all of the above and then some?

For me, the communication aspect is
what is most important. Most of my friends are in far flung places so email is essential
to keep up with them. And an IM saves an enormous
phone bill. I keep an online journal, and 99% of the time I am online I am either updating
mine or reading other people's journals. There is nothing more interesting to me than
knowing what makes other people tick. So for me, the communication aspect of the internet
is the entertaining part as well.

Email. It's much easier to get and keep in
touch with loved ones and friends via email as opposed to snail mail. It's also a whole
lot cheaper to shoot out an email than to make a long-distance or overseas call. Looking
for jobs is also a breeze now that we can respond to ads via email and even fax resumes
via computer. Up to the minute news is important too, but TV covers that pretty well
nowadays. As for surfing...great fun and a good way to kill time, but I don't think it
rates as importantly as keeping in touch with folks.

Internet is great for communication (email),
searching for crucial info and replacing mundane chores like banking and shopping. Access
to alternative press and a variety of radio stations is really cool.

Of the choices listed, email is the most
useful. I mainly use the Internet for finding information on a subject.
Reba, 50+

I think email is the most important.
I stay in touch with my family and my best friend a lot more than we would if we had to go
through the normal mail. I can't go a day without
writing them. News you can only get if no one else is interested and entertainment runs
out after a while (though it is still important for both.)

Porn! :P Nah, email's the most useful

I think e-mail is the most useful aspect of
the net for communications purposes, but thanks to the "pure entertainment"
aspect (although lots of web surfing is for educational purposes), we can get a wealth of
information on a variety of topics nearly instantly.

I'd go with email, with entertainment coming
in close.

I could not live without my computer. This
is my fourth one, guess I wear them out. I also have a laptop. I use mine for personal
use, not work. I spend quite a few hours everyday on it.

Pure entertainment.. Thats all. The
news never seems to be up to date...

The most fun way is just for pure
entertainment, but that's not the question. The most USEFUL way to use the Internet is
something that wasn't listed...learning. A vast amount of information is available to
anyone wanting to look at it. Even if there was no e-mail or news, the Internet would
still serve a very useful purpose.
Doug2, 29

pure entertainment-chating and surfing.

I'm gonna
go with email, although on Sept. 11 the up to the minute news was incredibly
useful..unfortunately, I don't usually read a lot of the news, other than my morning
paper.
