What
are you doing to help protect the environment? Hi. I am very
interested in your project and would love to participate. Below is my first contribution;
a brief summary of myself and my life as I see it now.
I am a 19 year old female living in the
south with my loving parents, where I attend college. Very recently I ended a serious
relationship with my girlfriend of 2 years. We love one another, but I reached a point
where I had to either save myself, or loose myself to an unhealthy relationship. Now I'm
seeing a girl that can give me the emotional support that I have denied myself for too
long, but not without a certain amount of guilt. I am a very strong, positive, intelligent
young woman. I have found my inner beauty, as well as the outer. I worry that I fit
the stereotype of shallow, ditzy girls, but I know that I am unique. I am unique because
of my life experiences, and the things that I learn from them. I believe I see the world
and everything in it for who or what it is, and I don't sugar-coat anything. I am real. I
stay true to myself and who I am, even when I'm not exactly sure about things. I live for
today (usually), and I live life according to my own expectations.
Jen, 19 SC, USA I am a member of the National Arbor Day Foundation. Melodi, 19 Gahanna, OH USA I try not to litter. I think much of the environmental hysteria is bogus. Global warming is cyclical and to get rid of chloroflorocarbons (sp?) you'd have to cap all the volcanoes. And we have more trees (in the U.S, anyway) than ever. The rain forests are a problem, but I don't know what I can do about that. If there's anything else I can do to make the world a better place, I'd certainly do it. Judy, 61 Easton, KS USA I don't litter. Angela, 18 Bella Vista, AR USA Using energy efficient cars and appliances. Jane, 62 West Linn, OR USA I recycle when possible, try to cut down on using things I don't need, and make small donations to an environmental charity. I also try to leave things the way I found them. Karen, 22 Ames, IA USA I recycle our glass, plastics, aluminum, paper, conserve water, only had two kids, commute to work on the train - using mass transit. When my son's were in elementary school, I started a recycling project at the school. Janet, 44 E. Brunswick, NJ USA I buy organic foods whenever possible. I recycle. I drive a fuel-efficient car. (I seriously considered buying one of the gas-electric hybrids, butthey weren't very safe.) Laura, 37 Lowell, MA USA I reuse and recycle. I make out-of-pocket contributions to Nature Conservancy. I buy my Christmas cards from the World Wildlife Find. I pick up litter along my road. Finally, every morning I sit down at my computer keyboard and click on a number of charitable websites to make small, but useful donation without personal expense. The following list is of sites that deal with the environment. www.racefortherainforest.com www.therainforestsite.com www.clearlandmines.com www.ecologyfund.com www.environmentsite.com www.givewater.org www.iwantcleanair.com www.landcarenigeria.com www.freedonation.com www.redjellyfish.com www.saverainforest.net www.tree4life.com www.panda.care2.com www.rainforest.care2.com Jill, 61 Saylorsburg, PA USA Using a refill mug when I get my coffee. Of course the fact that I have a dozen of the damned things might defeat the purpose. Alias Irrelevante Not as much as I should, I'm afraid. I try to recycle, but usually forget. I try not to litter. I guess I'm just not as aware of that as I am other things in my life, like my family, my wife, my kids, and supporting them. Doug2, 29 Overland Park, KS USA I bring cloth bags to the grocery store. I buy recycled products whenever possible. I have a massive recycle collection going on in my house consisting of glass, newspaper, white paper, colored paper, slick paper, cardboard, paperboard, tin, aluminum, and plastics (separated, the center takes 1's and 2's). I try to reuse things at least several times (for instance I bought a bottle of Osarka water and I refill it. I've had it for many months, washing when needed). I wish I could bike to work, but it's just not possible, though at my old job I did have a carpool with 3 other people. And if there is an important issue, I will write my congressman about it. Triana, 29 Austin, TX USA Well, I don't litter, I try to recycle, and I can't stand styrofoam. =) Nicci, 27 Las Vegas, NV USA My school has a really good recycling program, and a separate can program that donates the proceeds to a homeless shelter. For my part, I keep tabs with an environmental group I used to work for that did lobbying for environmental bills and so on. And little things, like turning off the water when I brush my teeth. Emily NYC, NY USA I recycle all the time and I try hard to avoid using aerosal items. I also love to plant seeds and watch things grow. Fisch, 46 Preston, CT USA I recycle and use public transportation. I'm turn off the water when I brush my teeth. I'm stand strongly opposed to oil drilling in Alaska. I support green energy and reduction of greenhouse gases and the use of fossil fuels that cause them. That's all I can think of right now. Eric, 19 Beverly Hills, CA USA Not much. I try and recycle soda bottles, better then nothing. Talia, 24 Wilton, CT USA I dont litter but that is about all oh i dont use aresol items either Nicole2, 20 Jackson, FL USA I don't litter. I conserve paper and recycle food containers. I take my lunch in a plastic tupperware instead of using baggies and paper bags. Stephanie, 25 TX USA Ah.. I return pop bottles for deposit. Katie2, 19 Ann Arbor, MI USA I am a vegetarian. The meat and dairy industries cause untold amounts of damage to the environment (http://www.vegsoc.org/animals ). I wish that people would take a look at what they are eating and realize the a effects (http://www.meatstinks.com) of their diet on the rest of the planet. Maggie, 22 Sandwich, IL USA I try not to drive too much, have a small vehicle, carry all my shopping in a reusable bag, and try to produce as much carbon dioxide for the plants every day. Ryan, 28 Riedlingen GERMANY more apathetic than ever before. unless of course you refer to the passing of dear LeftEye, in which case i became morbidly giddy. sick? very. but so so satisfying. A-Dog, 19 McMinnville, OR USA |
