How well do you keep secrets?

When I agree to keep a secret, I keep a secret. The older I get, the less likely I am to agree to "You mustn't tell anyone but......"

Jill, 61

I'm pretty good at keeping secrets. Many years ago, someone close to me revealed a secret that I asked go with her to her grave. A few weeks later a family member was talking about it openly. At that moment I vowed to keep secrets. I don't think I fail at that very often. If I do, I tell the person
that I messed up.

I think I keep secrets pretty well. I never tell anyone anything, but then again I usually forget who told me what and I end up eventually forgetting most secrets anyway.

Oh, I think I'm pretty good at keeping secrets, but really, I'd rather not have that responsibility.

Tam

It depends who the secret is about. Like if a co-worker tells me a secret I usually tell my fiance because I know he doesn't know the person or won't tell anyway.

I like to think I can keep a secret very well. Here, let me give you an example... My wife made me promise not to tell ANYONE about a friend of ours quitting her job. She said that our friend, who's husband is out of town until the 4th, was going to try to find a replacement job by the time he got home. So, I told her I wouldn't tell anyone and I haven't! uhhh...wait... did I? eh, forget it, I suck at keeping secrets.

I am pretty good at keeping secrets and confidences.

Keeping secrets is not as easy as it would seem. Truth be told the only way to keep something secret is to not share it with anyone. The truth is that secrets are meant to be shared with trustworthy, tactful people who want the juicy news but can be discreet. It's always open season on secrets.

Cindy, 41

Depends on the secret and who I have to keep it from. I basically keep nothing from my husband.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

Pretty well...unless it's somebody I don't like. But even then they would have had to have done something very bad to me for me to blab all their secrets. :)

Ashley, 20
Jacksonville, FL USA

I'm horrible at it!

Melodi, 19
Gahanna, OH USA

Very well, especially if they are not my own.

Jane, 63
West Linn, OR USA

Very well.

Cathie, 53
Novi, MI USA

Very well, I like to think. If I'm told something in confidentiality I never pass it on.

Aly, 17

If it's really important...I can keep it. If it's exciting news...I usually have to tell someone I trust:)

Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA

If I'm instructed that it is a secret always. If counted on to use my judgement to know it should be secret, not always.

Felicia, 36
Lowell, MA USA

Always. My lips are sealed.

Judy, 62
Easton, KS USA

That depends on the secret.

Firelady, 24
Frisco, TX USA

Very well. I'll gossip with the rest of em, but if asked to keep something on the QT, my lips are completely sealed.

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

Depends on the secret. Those that I hear at school, gossip mostly, isn't very important to me and I might tell some people. But secrets that are very confidential, I can keep them for a lifetime.

Merve

If it's a secret someone else has asked me to keep, then chances are you'll never get it out of me. If it's a secret of my own (like someone I have a crush on, a present I've bought, etc.), however, I end up going crazy until I talk to someone else about it or post about it in my journal.
