I have an old friend in New York City who is
retired from the NYPD. He spent the last six years of his career with
the harbor patrol unit. He loved his job. My sister is getting ready to retire from
NYPD but she works as a civilian administrator, not an officer. A good friend of mine
currently works for the Philadelphia PD...I admire these folks - - I wouldn't want
to approach a vehicle from behind at night, and sure as hell wouldn't want to become
involved in a domestic dispute - I think they can be the worst!!

Yes, my best friend Mike. I've mentioned him
before. He's a Chicago cop. He grew up with me in Indiana. He was still living in Indiana
when he got the job. They told him he made the cut and 3 days later the policy academy
started. He had to rush up here, find an apartment, and learn the city very quickly! He
was actually very naive. He was used to the neighborly ways of small town Indiana. He
really struggled for a while. I think all the other cops made fun of him in the beginning.
Then they realized what a cool guy he was and everybody learned to have a lot of respect
for him. He's gotten lots of good recognition for his work. He's been a cop for probably 4
years now. He tells the funniest stories about all the weird stuff that happens on
the job. The best stories are about the prostitution stings he does. Once his Sargeant
made him dress up in a cowboy outfit and go pick up the prosititutes! He is a very funny
guy (in high school he was voted Class Clown) so he really played up the cowboy part! Once
the prostitutes were in jail, they kept talking about the "freak cowboy"! Oh,
the stories, I could go on and on.....

Tracy, 24

Yes I have some very close friends and close
relatives in law enforcement. I don't know how some have managed to stay married for as
long as they have with the type of work person 's in law enforcement do. I think it would
be very stressful for families of loved ones in that type of work.
Marci, 55
Diamond, OH
USA
Not at the moment. I had several great
uncles who were policemen at various levels -- from mounted cop to big city police chief.
And when I was growing up, the village policeman was a friend of my family.

Kevin, 33

I used to work with a bunch of
people who thought they were plus some who used to be. One of my ex-bosses did a stint as
head of the DEA so it was really funny when he almost
lost a client because they went through 30 guards before they found one who could pass a
drug test.
