What was the last important computer file that you lost?

How about at least three quarters of my hard drive... nearly two months ago. Still unsure whether it was a hacker or a virus or a little bit of both! This included over 200 pages of manuscript.

I asked this question because I lost two or three key files related to this project. And silly me, I didn't have a backup of any of them. Poor process on my part.

I cant recall ever really losing a file. I guess I've been pretty lucky that way.\

I lost 90 photos of a band I shot a month ago.

I have been extremely lucky. I haven't lost any files in years. I feel like this is going to jinx me.

Several months ago, I had completed a project for a client and had saved it both on the hard drive of the computer on which I was working and on the server. Unfortunately, no one had told me that they had given me the server as my work station, so when it crashed and burned, all copies of the application were lost.

My six page English report on Informal free style creative writing where you make up your answers as you go, so I didn't even have any paper to copy off of when I had to type it up again!

None that I can remember. I backup regularly and I usually get to the point of wanting to reinstall
everything fresh before anything serious happens.

funny you should ask that because right this minute i am trying to figure out what happened to my cd-rom drivers. it looks like i have them on a cd the came with this computer. how helpful. never buy a compaq, and avoid windows xp like the plague.

Money-Ugh! I had to totally redo everything. Why didn't you back it up you say? Let's just say I now now.

Actually, I am really good about saving. I don't lose things much--especially not important things. I've heard people complain about losing whole papers for school, but I never feel sorry for those people because they should have saved. We did have the main Quattro file at work crash
recently, but we had a backup and only ended up losing 2 or so days worth of information. A few months ago my hard drive died, but my husband managed to get everything back for me. (I did have a backup of my whole computer, but it was pretty old, so I would've lost quite a few things.)

I co-ordinate/design the templates for PowerPoint for our church. Someone was kind enough to take all the lyrics files (and we are talking about a hundred or so songs with a lest six slides per song) and put them into our design template. They burned a CD of them and I have lost the CD.
And of course they are now living in another country.......I am hoping it will show up in my computer room some day. After losing hours of artwork on various projects.. I now open a file, save it and use auto back up on my program. There's nothing like going to task on a job and then having PhotoShop freeze and you having to reboot the computer and an hours worth of work
is gone. I also try and back up my jobs at night or at least every week.
