What is the scariest movie you have ever seen?

The Exorcist. Far and away the scariest movie I've ever, ever seen. Not that I saw that much of it. My eyes were closed through most of it and I tried to plug my ears up. I was too scared to leave the theater.

I can't remember the last time a movie scared me. I love to watch them so much that not much phases me. However, when I read the "Amityville Horror" and "Helter Skelter" both scared /
creeped-me-out immensely.

Psycho.

Hannibal probably - although there are alot less scary scenes than I thought, that one scene at the end with Hannibal eating this guy's brain is... I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Oh yeah, and I once watched this documentary on Serial Killers. I've discovered that they're scarier than horror films because they're real.

And The Sleepers. I hate that film.

I would have to say that is a tie between the Silence of the Lambs/Manhunter and The Hitcher...with an honorable mention to the Exorcist...

Blair Witch Project. I know there were mostly two reactions to that movie. One, it was that thought to be dumb and two, it scared the pants off of most people.

The hands-down winner is "The Amityville Horror". I watched it at home one dark, rainy night when my husband was working and it SCARED ME TO DEATH! Horror movies make my stomach hurt so I don't usually watch them and many of the so-called "horror" movies are, in reality, gory, which sickens me.

Movies don't scare me much at all. I will say the scariest MOMENT in a movie that I've seen, at least, a moment that sticks with me as just very very freaky, was in the Exorcist III, when the statue comes to life in the hospital and follows the lady down the hall with the giant scissors... that freaked me out. As for the overall scariest movie... I can't really say there was one. Like I said, I don't think they are scary (although Thirteen Ghosts was as close to getting scary as I've ever seen).

"Salem's Lot" has given me plenty of nightmares...especially as a child. I used to lay awake in my bedroom with a scarf wrapped around my neck (so that a Vampire couldn't bite me while I slept) and imagine I heard a creature scraping it's fingernails down my window, as they did in the movie! The most recent movie that scared me, I think would have to be "Pet Semetary." I
couldn't even finish watching it, it was so horrifying!

Audition - that film is terrifying. After watching it I felt like I'd woken up from a nightmare.

Does the Ernest series count? Actually I think it is the Shining.

I generally avoid scary movies.

People will surely think I'm crazy but I have to say the original Jaws. No horror movie EVER struck me quite the way that one did.... especially the way they filmed and dramatized that first girl in the water at night! I think I had nightmares for a week.

The Exorcist. I don't see many movies.

I don't know. I've probably blocked it out.

Karen, 23

I'm not sure, because I have seen a lot of thriller movies and they don't scare me very easily. The Exorcist was pretty horrifying though.

As part of a course I took as a volunteer for a Rape Crisis Center we were shown scenes from a snuff film. It was very ugly--and we weren't shown the worst segments.

Jill, 61

Blair witch project was pretty creepy. So was "the Others."

Talia, 25

The Exorcist

Stephanie, 25
TX USA

I'd say the Exorcist or the Shining

The Shining. I was on a date with my husband at the time. I told him if he didn't take me out of the movie, I would get up and scream. He did take me out, I was too scared to walk out on my own. I have a habit of biting people in movies that are too scary, so not too many people want to take me
