Have
you ever had any dreams/nightmares that, like, totally freaked you out? Certainly. You'll
understand, then, if I don't recount them for you.

Rarely. When I do it usually involves being
chased by someone I know is totally insane and homicidal.

Like, totally. I mean, like, get this,
right? Last...Monday? Yeah, Monday, I was camping at this drained out resevoir next to a
steep slope (Waterbury?) and during the night I dreamed there was a mudslide. Woke/jumped
up ready to hurl. Totally. Didn't though.

I've had a few freaky nightmares,
mostly when I was a teenager, although I remember them vividly to this day. One that
really stands out happened when I was about 13 or 14
years old. At that time, we had this big, old German Shepard-Rottwieller mix dog, Dudley.
He was very gentle and wouldn't have hurt a flea. Well,...in my dream, I was in my bedroom
and I heard this "thump"..."thump"..."thump"...so I opened
my door to see what it was. It turned out to be my sister's decapitated head thumping down
the stairs...and there was Dudley at the top, snarling like a demon, covered in blood. He
lunged for me and I slammed the door shut. I could hear him on the other side scratching,
tearing at the wood, howling, trying to get through. The door was shuddering, ready to
break in...I was screaming, terrified...then I woke up. Dudley was sleeping
peacefully on the rug beside my bed. I was so scared I jumped up, ran into my parents room
and hurled myself into their bed...and...Oh My God, they were having SEX!!! That, I think,
was more horrifying than my dream!!!

While I remember lots of dreams that, like,
totally freaked me out, a few can stand out. I have lots of dreams involving roads. I go
different places, and do different things, but it's all the same road. I don't like the
road, and I never look from side to side. Once I dreamt that I walked outside, and it was
an exceptionally clear day. There was almost a crystalline quality to the air that made it
shimmer. The air was so fresh it almost burned my nostrils and lungs when I
breathed. Suddenly, I realised that I could float. I would convince myself that gravity
was not absolute, and then begin to float up. The purity of the air boueyed me. Several
other people came out and realised this too, and everybody beganto rejoice and play in
midair. Suddenly I glimpsed a huge structure in the far distance. Because of the clarity
of the air, I could see much farther than usual. The structure floated toward us on the
air, and I knew that the bouyancy of our bodies was connected to this beautiful building
on the clouds, and I was filled with a sense of forboding and dread as I hung in midair,
surrounded by my neighbors cavorting drunkenly off the ground, watching the structure,
ignored by everyone else, float slowly toward us. Then I woke up.

Yes, but not recently enough for me to
remember the details.

Yes. And when I do have terrifying
nightmares, I know that I'm avoiding conflict in my waking hours.

Like, yeah.

Like, yah! Like, this one time, I, like, had
this dream that i was, like, a vampire and I, like, tore my way through this window
screen. And then, I like totally swooped down and like grabbed this girl up out of a pool.
It was like totally freaky.

Of course. I'd say the scariest ones were
when I woke up, and woke up, and woke up in one dream into another. I eventually got
confused what was real and if I was really awake. A recent one that totally freaked me out
was when I dreamt I was kissing my best guy friend. Although I liked it, I was freaked
that I dreamt it and then had to see him the next day.

Oh my goodness. What on earth did you have
that "like" in there for? I could understand saying out loud, but whatever
possessed you to actually type it? (And no, I have not had dreams that freaked me out.)

Yeah. I have one nightmare that I've been
having off and on since I was a little girl. My house is on fire and I only have like a 3
inch wide beam of floor throughout the house to get out. Creepy.

I have on occasion been so frightened that
I've been jolted out of sleep. A dream of a black panther jumping at me when I opened the
door to my house is one such dream. I've had disturbing dreams were I wake up and think
I've killed someone. But mostly my dreams are innocuous.

What does it mean to be, like, "totally
freaked out?"
Reba, 50+

Yeah, I get freaked out by dreams from time
to time. When I worked at a veterinary clinic, I'd totally have nightmares, like,
all the time. I'd dream that I hadn't given a diabetic dog its shots and stuff, you know?
And then I'd be, like, halfway dressed before I figured out it was just a dream.

Well most nightmares totally freak me out :P
Haven't had one in recent memory tho.

I'm very careful about what I read
before bedtime. Given the right raw material I can
create very impressive mental horrors.

Absolutely...a couple of weeks ago, I had a
series of 5 or six dreams that totally freaked me out, dude...Somebody at work croaked me,
in a variety of different ways. In one dream, she was riding to work on a elephant, with a
sword by her side (like Hannibal)...and she stabbed me to death. In another dream, she
burst into work with a machine gun, looking for me, and shot me in the face, point
blank...those dreams totally freaked me out...I am used to dreaming about my own death,
but virtually never do I recognized the person who is croaking me...that is what freaked
me out...I could not figure out why anybody would want me croaked.

When I
was younger I had a recurring dream that was basically darkness with a weird sound. It
would continually wake me up in a freaked out mindset everytime. Thankfully those ended.
