If you are running an errand 15 miles from home and discover half-way there that you left your wallet (license) home, do you turn back to get it or proceed with your errand?

I don't really have much in the way of 15-mile errands. . .if I am running an errand, it's generally within 5 miles of home, so if I realize that I don't have my license it's just as far to go home to get it as just to go do whatever I was going to do. However, if I need money, my wallet's probably pretty important (if there's money in my wallet, of course). . .

The chances of me forgetting my identification are small since I keep both my keys and my drivers license in the same compartment of my purse. If I did pick up the keys without the paperwork I'd consider my destination--then make a decision about turning back.

I'd just continue with my errand and drive carefully. (I'll just assume that, despite the fact I don't have my wallet I still have the money required to finish my errand.)

NO ID DON'T TURN BACK IF I AM GOING TO A ERRAND 15 MILES AWAY AND REALIZED I LEFT MY LICENSE AT HOME. i CONTINUE TO DO MY THING UNLESS WHAT I HAVE TO DO I KNOW WOULD REQUIRE MY LICENSE.

It depends...if I'm on a rushed schedule, I'll probably just go on with my errand. If I have a little time to spare, I'll turn back and go get my license.

I would proceed. BUt if I didn't have my license, I also would not have my money or credit card to finish my errand so I would turn back to get my wallet. But if I was just picking up my kids and did not need any cash, I would forge ahead.

I proceed with my errand.

If you are running an errand 15 miles from home and discover half-way there that you left your wallet (license) home, do you turn back to get it or proceed with your errand?  Sure, as that is where my money usually is as well.

assuming that i could do my errand without my wallet(no money involved in errand) i'd probably take my chances..

yes I would go back and get my wallet

Hmmm. Most likely whatever Im doing will take money, as everything does these days. Soo, I would have to say that yes, I would go back and get it.

Well, seeing as I keep my cash in my wallet and I have no credit cards or a checkbook I turn my butt around and go home. No point in running an errand if I can't pay for whatever it is I am going out for.

Of course I would have to turn back, as my wallet has my cash and debit card as well as the drivers license.

I'd proceed without it and take the risk of being stopped. Probably not the wisest thing to do, but that would be me.

If the question is whether I would be willing to drive without my license in hand, the answer is probably yes. As I've only received one traffic citation in forty-odd years of driving, I think my odds are pretty good. In reality, however, as my wallet contains my cash and credit cards, library card, etc., there are very few errands I could run without it, so I'd almost certainly have to turn back.

I would turn around and get it. The cops like to pull me over to much.

As long as I didn't need anything else from the wallet I would probably continue on the errand making sure to follow all traffic laws to the T as I drove on my way.

Well, I would just go on with the errand if it's just my license that I forgot. Now if I have to go to the store, and I need my wallet (money) at home, then I would HAVE to go back and get it. Now, if the errand was to run out and get beer or liquor, I guess I'd have to go back and get my license.

I would go home and get my license.

I proceed with my errand, but am very aware of how I drive.

Nicholas

All depends if I need something in my wallet. i.e Credit Card, receipt, etc. If yes, then I turn around an go back. If not, I keep on going.

Kevin, 33

Well, do you mean my wallet or my license? Because my wallet has my money, which I would go back for, but I don't think I would care about my license.

Jennifer, 20

Well, that all depends. If I need the money or credit card in my wallet to proceed with my errand, I go back. I don't go back just to get my driver's license, though. You don't REALLY need that to drive. Besides, in most places you have a few hours to come up with the license.

Eric, 19

I'd proceed w/ the errand

Patty

Am I missing part of the question? Does it assume the only thing in the wallet I might need is my license in case I get pulled over? In that case I'd keep driving. In most cases though I would need the contents of my wallet.

Alias Irrelevante

I think it sorta depended on the errand. If I have to buy something, then of course I would. I've driven to visit friends and realized once I got there that I left my purse at home. In those instances I turned back. But I've driven to school without my purse and just stayed.

I proceed on my way and just drive slowly and carefully! :)

This has happened to me. I proceeded with my errand because I didn't feel like making the hassle of going all the way back home. The chances of getting into an accident/getting a ticket were too small where I lived. I just drove very, very carefully and knocked on wood.

I probably wouldn't even notice unless I needed the wallet. So I'd proceed without thinking twice, even if it occured to me.

hesperia

It depends on a lot of factors really. If I had the day free and had no other plans, I wouldn't mind going back and getting my wallet. But if I was in a hurry and only had a certain amount of time open during that day to do it, I would just do it another day. However, if I was simply going back to get my driver's license, I would keep going but if the wallet contained the $$ in order to pay for the item, of course I would go back, whether or not I would enforce the errand depends on the before stated.
