Is
technology a good thing?
It's niether good
nor bad. It is. Those how develop and use it, on the other hand?? Well
that is a different story.

As has been said
of many nouns, both concrete and abstract, "Technology is a good
servant and a bad master."

It's hard for me
to think of technology in terms of "good" and "bad".
It's neutral.

Hey, if there wasn't
technology, I wouldn't be answering this email.

Some is!

Most of the time,
yes -- when it leads to medical breakthroughs, improved communication,
an easier life, or good jobs. No, when it involves weapons of mass destruction.

It depends on the
ethical and moral values behind the technology. For example, an personal
computer is a good thing because it helps educate students. Technology
is bad when it is used for something evil, like building atomic bombs
or other nuclear weapons.

It's neither good
nor bad. It just is. It's what we do with it that's improtant. I love
it.

Without it we wouldn't
be reading or responding to these questions. Sure it's a good thing.

It would be pretty
hypocritical to say no-- I use technology for so much. Of course I suppose
that there are people who might take it to far.
Cara,

In general, probably
not. Although sure, it saves lives, i mean, i really think nature designed
us as a race not to live so long :P Technology in general makes our lives
easier, but i think that it has really worsened the planet as a whole.
Talia,

Yes and No. Technology
has made things faster and more convienient. It has helped locate people
and form lines of communication between countries. It has also threatened
to destroy the world. It seems like the more information we aquire, the
crazies out there have more and improved ways of
killing. We would've never thought in the 17 or 1800s that a nuclear bomb
could end civilazation as we know it. It was fantasy in sci-fi novels.
Now look at the world. There's a price to pay for anything, good or bad.
Technology can give life ( cloning) and destroy it.

Yes, as I sit here
writing this email with my clothes in the washing machine, the dishes
in the dishwasher, and my dinner in the oven.
Christopher,

I'm not sure I
understand this question... or rather, understand why it would be asked.
How is it NOT a good thing?
Doug2,

Overland Park, KS USA
Generally yes.
However, it's subject to the same moral considerations as all other aspects
of human action and development.
Firelady,

Besides
being biased because I'm studying physics, I have to say that that's a
silly question. Technology brought you both the computer and the internet,
through which we can talk. If you have kids, technology lowered the infant
mortality rate to about .006%. I just talked to my friend who found out
today that she has strep throat, and technology is keeping her alive.

Most
of the time it's good, but I can see how sometimes it's a detriment to
society.

Yes it is wonderful! Wish my friends had lived long enough to enjoy it
as I know they would have.

Yes...it
helps to save lives.

On
the whole, I think it is. I think we are a little too dependent on it,
though.
Jeremy,

Depends
on who uses it, and how they use it.
