Do you set limits for yourself when you drink and cut yourself off when you know you've had enough?

No. I don't drink.

Cathie, 53
Novi, MI USA

I drink when I'm thirsty. I never drink alcoholic beverages (never have, hopefully never will). So I
drink till I don't feel like drinking anymore, and then I stop.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

Almost always. The last time I drank entirely too much was in 1998. I usually stop at two drinks. Three at the most anymore.

Laura, 37
Lowell, MA USA

Definitely. I usually don't drink more than one 12-oz bottle of a malt beverage.

Melodi, 19
Gahanna, OH USA

Not usually - I have pretty high alcohol tolerance. I've been on pretty strong medication for the past six months with high vitamin A content, so I'm very careful about how much I drink nowadays.

Most of the time I can cut myself off, but sometimes you're just having so much fun you don't notice until it's too late!

Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA

I like to drink till i have a nice buzz going then stop before i get to the "ready to puke" stage.

Talia, 25
Tallahassee, FL USA

I don't drink. I cannot stand the taste (or smell) of alcohol in any form, be it wine, beer, mixed drinks...whatever. I sometimes wish I could, though...because I think it would be nice to unwind and relax at the end of the day with a glass of wine.

Tam

Due to a stomach condition I can't drink. Sure use to enjoy a mixed drink once in a great while.

Laney, 60
TX USA

I try to keep to a drink an hour when I'm out.

Felicia, 36
Lowell, MA USA

Certainly. There's no fun in having a hangover and worshipping the porcelain god. Although there are times when I over indulge and have regrets. But if we go out drinking, we have a designated driver.

Janet, 45
E. Brunswick, NJ USA

Yes.

Jill, 61

I love beer. And yeah, by now I generally just pace myself so I can last the whole night with a beer ever in my hand and not do anything especially stupid. But hey, I'm 20. You're supposed to get wasted at this age. You're supposed to do stupid crap too, but the trick is to do it gracefully. And
taking a few nights off every week is also a good plan. Man I love college towns. I recomend Eugene, OR to anyone under 30. Good times, great friends, and there's always someone else that'll get tanked and become an ass in front of everyone. God bless this town.

A-Dog, 19
McMinneville, OR USA

I rarely have more than one or two drinks.

Jane, 63
West Linn, OR USA

most of the time it matters what kind of mood i'm in

Hoochie

Yes, I pretty much know how far i can go before I have a hangover the next day, and that's why i've only had one. It was not a pleasant experience that one time.

Ashley, 20
Jacksonville, FL USA

I don't drink alcohol but I have a feeling I might not be one of the most self-disciplined drinkers if I did. (Anybody have any chocolate?)

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

On most occassions, yes, I do exactly that. In fact, very rarely will I drink beyond a certain limit. I
can tell when I'm getting drunk and I'll usually stop at that point and start drinking water. I enjoy
social drinking with friends, but I really can't stand being sloppy drunk.

Doug2, 30
Kansas City, KS USA

I don't set limits. I don't drink much anymore, but in my younger days, I could tell when I was feeling the effects and either slowed down or quit for the evening. I've had a few hangovers and it didn't take long to figure out that they're not worth it.

Judy, 62
Easton, KS USA

depends on if you want to get drunk or not and if you know when to stop

Alesha, 16

Generally I only drink to attain a buzz, so I limit "when" I drink, no so much how much. I drink about four times a year.

Cindy, 41
VA USA

i dont drink

Cara, 18
Valparasio, IN USA

I don't have a set limit because I may drink a different drink when I go out. But I know when my body has had enough. I usually just drink enough to feel relaxed or when my eyes start to wiggle". TAXI!

Stephanie, 25
TX USA

I don't drink at all. I'm always the designated driver. My friends can drink as much as they want (I'm far from a prude), but with me they know that they'll always have a safe way home and someone to watch over them (ie. in case, lord forbid, of the date rape drug). And I hate being sick, so I avoid doing things to myself that will make me sick. I'm wild enough without drugs or alcohol -- trust me.

Keri-Jade, 23
Brampton, Ontario CANADA

I don't drink only for a special occassion like a wedding. I then do not drive. I let my husband.
