How valuable has been your education?

I went to college to become a teacher but I never became one.

Reba, 57
Gaithersburg, MD USA

I only used my college degree for about a year while I worked, but I think education is vital for anyone. Not everyone should go to college; there are other ways to educate yourself. I wouldn't trade my education for anything.

Well, I only finished 1 1/2 years of college. High School was overly simple for me. I've learned more from life's lessons than anything ever taught in school, which is invaluable. The little bit of
education I received while in college was not worth the money I wasted in getting it (it may have been if I'd finished) and the high school education did little except prepare me to go into college. The value of the education I've received from my family regarding life and love can't be measured by money.

utterly useless :(

Talia, 25
Stamford, CT USA

Extremely valuable. I feel very fortunate that I am able to get an education, especially because my first nine years were at a private school. When I think of the future, my education is always the biggest factor.

Jeremy, 14
Highlands Ranch, CO USA

I never really got one and the subject never comes up, people seem to be more interested in what I do and have done recently than how many tenured professors I had to put up with.

I would say it was worth the many coins I paid (and am paying).

Ryan, 29
Morton, IL USA

Instead of attending a regular high school during my junior and senior years as a teenager, I enrolled in a joint vocational school. My major was Accounting and Computer Technology. My current job at Bank One involves working with their credit card customers. This doesn't necessarily involve accounting, but I did learn a lot about computers. I believe I have also gained experience from other jobs I have had, which also contributes as education.

Melodi, 19
Gahanna, OH USA

Ha! It certainly hasn't paid for itself yet. My degree pretty much counts for nothing in this job
market.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

My education has served me well because without it I couldn't have gotten a job. I am sure I could have done my job without the education (teacher), but it really helped, believe me that!

Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA

Very much so. I go to a tech school, and I am learning how to do my future career as a nurse.

Em, 16
Harrisburg, PA USA

To start with, I'll be really sad to see this project end. That said, my education has been invaluable. High school was a load of crap, but college has been a chance for me to make contacts, get amazing experience, learn about the history of the universe and mankind, and put me in a higher echelon of the society than I would have been otherwise. With my degree and perhaps a phd I'll have any job I want and be able to communicate with people who are extremely intelligent and share my interests as well as be able to travel and learn about other cultures.

I believe my education has been very valuable. In fact, I can't wait till I can start going to college again regularly.

Ashley, 20
Jacksonville, FL USA

My liberal arts education and independent reading since college "commencement" have been invaluable. Nothing is more comfortable than a well-furnished mind.

Jill, 61
Saylorsburg, PA USA

My education has been priceless to me.

Tam

very cliche, but i really do believe my education has been priceless. what i have learned, the ppurtunities and experiences i have had, and the people ive met.

Cara, 18
Valparaiso

I have to agree with Talia on this question...my education has been completely useless...up to this point...I did not have to spend 5.5 years at college to learn how to file and type and sort...which is what I do all day...granted I am good at what I do...but it's not brain surgery...whatever.

CAT WORLD

Invaluable. It has shaped my perception of the world and has given me a disciplined approach to solving problems.

Jane, 62
West Linn, OR USA

Incredibily. I would not be the person I am today withouth the formal education I have had. I also would not have the job I do without it.

Felicia, 36
Lowell, MA USA

My eduation has been very valuable. My classes in college taught me to think critically, to meet deadlines and to manage my time.
