What is humility and what is groveling?

Humility is freedom from pride. Groveling is to crawl and cringe.

Christine, 37

Humility is part of a successful personality. Groveling indicates a pathology either in the groveler or the person who requires the obeisance.

good question, i dont know where you would draw the line between the two

Humility is recognition that you are not the center of the world. Grovelling is what you do when you thought you were the center of the world and then learned differently.

Laura, 37
Lowell, MA USA

Humility is recognizing your own shortcomings and not putting yourself above others. Groveling is trying too hard to get people to like you. In other words, ass-kissing.

Judy, 62
Easton, KS USA

Humility is non-show offey. Groveling is begging.

Em, 16
Harrisburg, PA USA

Humility is an honest recognition of one's limitations and inadequacies. Groveling is a pretense of humility for the sake of gain.

Jane, 62
West Linn, OR USA

Humility, I think, is not bragging or boasting...having confidence in something about yourself, but being comfortable just knowing this for yourself and not having to broadcast it all over creation...it also means being able to gracefully accept qualities that others have, qualities or material things that perhaps you yourself would like to have...Groveling is just an ugly, humiliating form of trying to get what you want...I guess that is about all I can say about it.

Tam

Humility is displaying a lack of pride. Groveling is begging, repeatedly (if need be) and pathetically.

Karen, 22
Ames, IA USA

Humility is the ability to be unpretentious or modest in your behavior, especially when things are going well. Groveling is kissing ass (What I do with my wife when I want to go out with my buddies... hehe, just kidding)

Doug2, 29
Overland Park, KS USA

Humility is an expression of selflessness. Groverling is an expression of egoism.

Felicia, 36
Lowell, MA USA

Humility is just recognizing someone's superiority over you, and respecting that. Grovelling is taking advantage of another person's superiority.
